Cover Songs

While some may say that artists should be original in their works, musicians have been "covering" songs for centuries. When you "cover" a song, you're taking a song originally written by someone else, and recording or performing it. With today's laws, this is impossible without permission, but most artists grant the permission all in the name of artistry. The first song that comes to mind is Luther Vandross' cover of Stevie Wonder's "Creepin'". That has to be one of the best covers of all time! I also like Jodeci's "Lately", Lauryn Hill's "You're Just To Good To Be True", Prince's "Maybe Your Baby", John Coltrane's "My Favorite Things", Sinead O'Connor's "Nothing Compares 2 U", et al. There are so many excellent cover songs that I could go on and on. Now, there are also some bad covers. Donnell Jones "Knocks Me Off My Feet". What trash! You're not Stevie, so get your own style!
