According to an email that I received, this is Jaime's new squeeze. Nice looking pick BTW! But I wonder if anything popped out of that dress?

I'm crying!!!

I am!!!

One of my students is transferring to another school, and she just told me that when she heard about taking a parenting class, she made fun of it, but after being in here, she said that she learned some things that she never thought about, and she told her boyfriend that they need to rethink their future. She thanked me for teaching the class.

Wow.

My eyes are probably red and the kids will think that I am high.

But wow.

Anniversary of hurricane Katrina

Listening to and watching the stories has not been on my to-do list. To think of my hometown as a place that will never be the same again is disheartening.

All of the places I used to visit, and the people I was guaranteed to bump in to.

That is gone now. How do I know? Since I've been back, it hasn't been the same.

But despite the failures and the slow moving federal government, the spirit of New Orleans is as alive as ever!

We will continue to party and celebrate because life is too short to be lived in the desolate places. New Orleans may appear physically, but the spirit is definitely willing to go forward.

Happy Birthday Mother Dear!!!

Greetings all!!

Got back yesterday afternoon after celebrating my grandmother's 80'th birthday. She was as beautiful as ever and so full of life. She is truly one person that I would want to live forever.

She is a retired school teacher, and many of her former students, co-workers, and even college friends came out to celebrate her. It was the coolest thing I have ever seen. I wonder if it is appropriate to want the same thing if I ever get to 80 years old.

To be surrounded by family, friends, and people who's lives you touched, but never quite knew how much.

Happy birthday and may God continue to bless you!

Rebuilding efforts in New Orleans

Who cares about these comments? Not me! Not anyone who is aware of what is really going on down there, or in New York. Rebuilding is not like fixing your door, or putting in a new engine block. We're talking thousands of houses. I'm not familiar with the NY situation, and hopefully someone who reads this blog can shed some light on it, but in New Orleans, there are still insurance claims that need to be settled. Would you work on a house and you weren't sure if you were getting paid? Oh sure, for humanity's sake let's help the people. Thousands of houses people. THOUSANDS!!! Its easier to make a judgment when you're not there or aren't emotionally connected to the city. If you aren't getting off of your duff to help, then please be quiet and watch Team USA basketball, the View, or whatever it is you o in your spare time.

Ticked off cities

Houston ranks 17th on the list, and you can tell that people here are angry, but I also understand why Orlando is number one. How many times can you listen to "Its a small world after all" before going postal? That's just my guess.

Air conditioning a problem?

It may be, but it gets very hot in Texas, especially Houston. Perhaps someone needs to fix those kinks.

WOW!

I couldn't believe how accurate this was. Big ups to Richmond for the link! Here are my results:

There are 13 letters in your name.
Those 13 letters total to 60
There are 5 vowels and 8 consonants in your name.
Your number is: 6
The characteristics of #6 are: Responsibility, protection, nurturing, community, balance, sympathy.
The expression or destiny for #6:
The number 6 Expression provides you a truly outstanding sense of responsibility, love, and balance. The 6 is helpful and ever conscientious, making you quite capable of rectifying and balancing any sort of inharmonious situation. You are a person very much inclined to give help and comfort to those in need. You have a natural penchant for working with the old, the young, the sick, or the underprivileged. Although you may have considerable creative and artistic talents, the chances are that you will devote yourself to an occupation that shows concern for the betterment of the community.
The positive side of the number 6 suggests that you are very loving, friendly, and appreciative of others. You have a depth of understanding that produces much sympathetic, kindness, and generosity. The qualities of the 6 make the finest and most concerned parent and one often deeply involved in domestic activities. Openness and honesty is apparent in your approach to all relationships.
If there is an excess of the number 6 in your makeup, you may exhibit some of the negative traits associated with this number. There may be a tendency for you to be too exacting and demanding of yourself. In this regard, you may at times sacrifice yourself (or your loved ones) for the welfare of others. In some cases, the over zealous 6 has difficulty distinguishing helping from interfering. You may have difficulty expressing your own individuality, because of involvement with responsibilities and causes. Like all with the Expression of the number 6, it's quite likely that you worry much too much.
Your Soul Urge number is: 2
A Soul Urge number of 2 means:
With the Soul Urge number 2, your motivation is centered on friendships, partnerships, and companionship. You want to work with others as a part of a cooperative team. Leadership is not important to you, but making a contribution to the team effort is. You are willing to work hard to achieve a harmonious environment with sensitive, genial people.
In a positive sense, the 2 Soul Urge is sympathetic, extremely concerned and devoted. The nature tends to be very sensitive to others, always tactful and diplomatic. This element in your nature indicates that you are rather emotional. You are persuasive, but in a very quiet way, never forceful. You are the type that makes really close friendships because you are so affectionate and loving.
If this number is over-emphasized in your makeup, you may be over-sensitive, with a delicate ego that is too easily hurt. You may be timid or fearful, too easygoing for your own good.
Your Inner Dream number is: 4
An Inner Dream number of 4 means:
You dream of being a very solid citizen that people can depend upon. You strive for organization and predictable order. You want to be recognized as a person with a plan and the discipline to make that plan work like clockwork.

Except for the timid part, I'd say that it was on point!

I love Mondays!!

Not! They're okay. I'm just so excited to be teaching. I already have kids who hate my class and complain that I give too much work! If only they knew that those complaints are music to me ears. Am I wrong not to tell them? It doesn't matter because I won't! They are complaining about doing a 10 page report. WTH! I had ten page reports due all of the time in high school. Nevermind the fact that I went to a college prep. These kids want a one or two page paper. I did ten page papers in college in one day including the research! But despite the project, we have loads of fun. I guess there will always be a party pooper. Friggin' Eors!!!

Got this back in 2003!

The Two Wolves
A Cherokee Legend

An elder Cherokee Native American was teaching his grandchildren
about
life.
He said to them, "A fight is going on inside me. It is a terrible
fight
and it is between two wolves.

One wolf represents fear, anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed,
arrogance,
self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride,
superiority
and ego.

The other wolf stands for joy, peace, love, hope, sharing,
serenity,
humility, kindness, benevolence, friendship, empathy, generosity,
truth,
compassion and faith.

This same fight is going on inside you, and inside every other
person,
too."

They thought about it for a minute and then one child asked his
grandfather: "Which wolf will win?"

The old Cherokee simply replied: "The one you feed."

Spike Lee's documentary

Has been receiving nothing but praise except from one critic in New Orleans. Who cares? Rarely do critics agree about a movie. Will I watch it? I haven't decided yet because New Orleans is my hometown, and I am in no mood to be upset and crying. I mean, who is really ever in a mood for those emotions?

I will be there next weekend to celebrate my grandmother's 80th birthday. Despite what has happened, people from New Orleans still know how to have a good time. Celebrating life is great therapy.

Misrepresented hero

I thought this was an interesting story that I heard on the Tom Joyner Morning Show this morning. I wasn't focused on the race of the marine, but the fact of what he did, and then how he just disappeared! Can you imagine such a thing?

Got this in an email

I get some pretty interesting thoughts, pics, and stories in my email that I simply must share. Feel free to copy and paste it, link it, etc.

Subject: 2 Tough Questions

2 tough questions are you ready?

If you knew a woman who was pregnant, who had 8 kids

already, three who were deaf, two who were blind,

one mentally retarded, and she had syphilis, would

you recommend that she have an abortion?

Read the next question before looking at the response for this one.

Question 2:

It is time to elect a new world leader, and only your

vote counts. Here are the facts about the three candidates.

Candidate A.

Associates with crooked politicians, and consults with astrologist.

He's had two mistresses. He also chain smokes and drinks 8 to 10
martinis a day.

Candidate B.

He was kicked out of office twice, sleeps until noon, used opium in
college and drinks a quart of whiskey every evening.

Candidate C

He is a decorated war hero. He's a vegetarian, doesn't smoke,

drinks an occasional beer and never cheated on his wife.

Which of these candidates would be our choice?

Decide first... no peeking, then scroll down for the response.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Candidate A is Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Candidate B is Winston Churchill.
Candidate C is Adolph Hitler.

And, by the way, on your answer to the abortion

question: If you said YES , you just killed Beethoven.

Pretty interesting isn't it? Makes a person think before
judging someone. Wait till you see the end of this note! Keep
reading..

Never be afraid to try something new.
Remember: Amateurs...built the ark.
Professionals...built the Titanic

And Finally, can you imagine working for a company
that has a little more than 500 employees and has the following
statistics:

* 29 have been accused of spousal abuse
* 7 have been arrested for fraud
* 19 have been accused of writing bad checks
* 117 have directly or indirectly bankrupted at least 2 businesses
* 3 have done time for assault
* 71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit
* 14 have been arrested on drug-related charges
* 8 have been arrested for shoplifting
* 21 are currently defendants in lawsuits
* 84 have been arrested for drunk driving in the last year...

Can you guess which organization this is?

Give up yet?

It's the 535 members of the United States Congress.

The same group that crank out hundreds of new laws each year
designed to keep the rest of us in line.

Datbury the teacher?

That's right ladies and gentleman, a teacher.

I have traded in my counseling sofa for a desk, chairs, and some of America's future.

I will be teaching parenting and theatre arts this year. I prefer to teach math, but none of our math teachers left, so here I am! I'm looking forward to this year, so please keep me and my students in your thoughts and prayers.

Its about time a man taught parenting!!!

Yes I've been gone

Computer was down at home, and since I was out for the summer, I took a long break. What a wonderful summer indeed!

I saw one of my friends from college get married in San Antonio.

I kept my oldest son at home for a few weeks.

But the greatest part is that my wife and I are back on track. I think I spent the most time ever talking to God this summer, and talking to him about the way my life has been going and where it was headed. I was concerned that being a good husband wasn't good enough. I was concerned that being a good father wasn't good enough. I was reminded that I had lost my focus. I had become self righteous, and in my state of self righteous, I forgot to bring those with me who weren't quite where they needed to be. But how could I do that all by myself?

That is when God said that I was regaining my focus with that question.

With God, all things are possible, and he is rewarding me for my faith. Imagine if I was stronger to hold out just a little while longer.
